Assistant Instructional Professor in Global Studies

The Social Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Instructional Professor in the Global Studies Program. The appointment is non-renewable and for a one-year term, beginning September 1, 2020. The Global Studies Program is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major in the humanities and social sciences with an emphasis on contemporary global issues and transnational processes. The Assistant Instructional Professor will teach five courses, including the Global Studies major’s two-quarter core sequence on global issues. The position will also oversee the BA thesis process, develop coursework that contributes to the Global Studies major, advise undergraduate thesis projects, and advise students in the major and ensuring appropriate progress towards their degrees. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University. The position requires a Ph.D. in the social sciences or area studies and is open to applicants who will have completed all requirements for their doctoral degree no later than August 31, 2020. An academic background focusing on issues of economic, political, and cultural globalization or processes that deal with more than one region of the world is required.
