Assistant Professor of US History

The Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy at Augusta University seeks a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of US History. Appointment to begin August 2021. All periods and specializations are welcome, but interest in and experience with military history is essential and public history would be considered a plus. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and display a compelling research agenda. PhD in History or related field required, awarded prior to appointment. The successful candidate will teach survey courses in both earlier and later US History as well as upper-level courses in military history alongside other courses in the candidate’s areas of interest. Standard duties for academic-year faculty include teaching undergraduate history courses, advising and mentoring students, maintaining a strong research program, and providing service to the Department, College, and University. Responsibilities include: Teaching courses as assigned; holding office hours, providing timely grading and student feedback; adhering to all academic policies of the University; maintenance of a high quality research program; and publication of peer-reviewed scholarship. Earned Ph.D. in History or related field at time of appointment. Required Experience: Demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness with diverse student populations. Preferred Experience: Experience teaching fully online synchronous or asychronous courses. The final candidate will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation. All candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review.
