Assistant Professor in Classical Studies and Sexuality and Gender Studies, 3-Year CLA

The Classical Studies program in the School of Languages and Literatures together with the Sexualities, Genders, and Social Change program at the University of Guelph invite applications for one three-year CLA position at the Assistant Professor level to commence on 1 July 2021. Responsibilities will include teaching 3 courses per semester in the Classics and/or Sexualities, Genders, and Social Change programs. Housed in the Classics program, the faculty member will be encouraged to participate in the annual Classics Symposium, the undergraduate student journal Canta Aeide, and to help advise the active Guelph Classics’ Student Society.

Qualifications: A PhD in Classics awarded by the time appointment commences, evidence of scholarly research (publications, awards, grants, papers) with the potential for international impact, and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level (i.e. strong teaching dossier) are required. Successful teaching in Greek or Latin language, Classical art, mythology, history, and/or literatures is preferred. Additional research or teaching interests in queer and feminist research and an interest in social justice and/or community-engaged scholarship are preferred.
