The Metropolitan Museum of Art Head of Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art The Metropolitan Museum of Art seeks candidates and nominations for the position of Head of the Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art. The Head of the Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art reports to the Deputy Director for Collections and Administration of The Met. This individual is responsible for the conceptualization, organization and development of the Research Center’s scholarly art historical Research and Fellowship program. As both an innovative scholar and administrator, the Head ensures that the activities of the Research Center are at the forefront of the study of modern art on an international scale. The Head is responsible for leading the Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art to achieve its mission as a major center for scholarship on Cubism and modern art in alignment with the Museum’s mission to enrich its global collections, exhibitions and education in art of the twentieth century and advance its equity goals. The Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art was founded in April 2013 to be one of the world’s leading centers for scholarship on modern art, building on the study of Cubism and the promised gift of the Leonard A. Lauder Cubist Collection. The first such institution dedicated exclusively to the study of modernism within an encyclopedic museum, the Research Center makes critical contributions to scholarship through its fellowships for emerging as well as senior scholars, its robust program of dossier exhibitions, archival resources, lectures, publications, research projects, and workshops, and a vital and rigorous website. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Art History and an international reputation as an innovative, ambitious and well-published scholar. S/he should have a proven record as a successful manager and administrator, and as a highly respected contributor to the local, national, and international scholarly community.
