Smith College invites applications in the Department of History for a non-tenure track, one-year, non-renewable benefits eligible position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2021. We seek someone trained in the modern period (since 1800); geographic area of specialization is open. 

Candidates should have experience teaching writing within the discipline of History and across an array of the platforms that figure in contemporary intellectual discourse. Teaching responsibilities for this position are five courses per year: a writing-intensive first-year seminar and four other writing-attentive courses with a public writing component in the History department; at least two of these courses will be team taught. Which courses the candidate teaches will depend on their field of specialization and the needs of the department. A Ph.D. is expected by the time of appointment.
