GENERAL INFORMATION

The Department of Classics at College of the Holy Cross, in collaboration with an interdisciplinary group of faculty members interested in critical race and ethnic studies, invites applications for a Two-Year Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in Classics and Race, beginning in August 2022. We are seeking applicants whose work explores some aspect of the relationship between Greco-Roman antiquity and race, past or present; who can teach courses in translation about classics and race; and who can teach an upper-level course in either Greek or Latin related to their research interests. We are excited to welcome our new colleague to the communities of people working in Classics and critical race and ethnic studies at Holy Cross, and we look forward both to mentoring them and to learning from them and their work as we develop curricular initiatives that speak to topics related to race and/in antiquity.

This position carries a 2-1 teaching load and includes conference travel support, a $2,000 faculty development account to support the fellow’s scholarship, and the opportunity to apply to the Committee on Faculty Scholarship for additional funding. Postdoctoral fellows are eligible for reimbursement of relocation costs within the College’s published policies. All full-time appointments offer competitive salaries and include full benefits. QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to, and potential for excellence in, undergraduate teaching and scholarly achievement. Candidates should have earned or be set to earn a Ph.D. between January 1, 2017, and September 1, 2022, and their Ph.D. should be in a humanities or social science field including, but not limited to, Archaeology, Classics, Comparative Literature, Cultural and Area Studies, History, Modern Languages, Near Eastern Studies, Race and Ethnic Studies, and Religious Studies. This position requires the ability to teach either Greek or Latin but does not require the ability to teach both.
