The Department of History at Florida International University is searching for an open-rank tenured/tenure-track professor position in Modern European History. We are especially interested in candidates who work on authoritarianism or autocracy broadly defined, including questions of historical memory or transnational connections between Europe and other parts of the world.
A Ph.D. in History or related field is required and must be in-hand before beginning the appointment. The candidate will teach a regular 2-2 load and contribute to the History Department’s undergraduate and graduate courses, including our broad M.A. program in History and our Ph.D. program in Atlantic History. FIU is a dynamic research institution and the person hired will have the opportunity to develop contacts with faculty working in cognate disciplines in the humanities and in other programs including the European and Eurasian Studies Program, the Miami-Florida Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, the Václav Havel Program for Human Rights and Democracy, and the Wolfsonian-FIU Museum.
In 2021, the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), the college housing the History Department, received full membership in the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). This prestigious organization includes the top 40 schools of international affairs in the world. SIPA is among only 25 in the US with this designation, 5th in the Southeastern United States, and the 1st and only one in the State of Florida. With this profile, FIU welcomes applicants with a demonstrated commitment to, and success in, working with diverse populations, encourages historically underrepresented minorities to apply, and invites applicants to reflect in their cover letter on how they could enhance the Department's strengths and offerings.
