The History Department at Boston University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor in African History, beginning Fall 2025.
The Department seeks candidates with expertise in African history, region and period open. Applicants with comparative, transnational or global perspectives are particularly welcome to apply. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in research and teaching within a federally funded and internationally engaged National Resource Center. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate core courses and in fields of specialization. The History Department believes that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our research and academic programs. To that, we are especially eager to have join our ranks a colleague who supports our institutional commitment to ensuring that BU is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and a place where all constituents can thrive.
Applicants should submit by October 1st 2024, a cover letter detailing teaching and research interests, a C.V., a substantive writing sample, and three letters of recommendation to Academic Jobs Online at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/28324. Further documentation may be requested of short-listed applicants. PhD must be in hand by beginning of employment. Review of applications will begin immediately after October 1st, and interviews will be conducted immediately after the Thanksgiving Recess. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
BU conducts a background check on all final candidates for certain faculty and staff positions. The background check includes contacting the final candidate’s current and previous employer(s) to ask whether, in the last seven years, there has been a substantiated finding of misconduct violating that employer’s applicable sexual misconduct policies. To implement this process, the University requires a final candidate to complete and sign the form entitled “Authorization to Release Information” after execution of an offer letter.
