Salary Details:
The projected salary pay range for this position is $93,591 - 103,990 (Assistant rank) or $124,296 - 144,813 (Associate rank), which represents the full range of anticipated compensation for this position. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.

The Department of History at Georgetown University invites applications for an advanced assistant or associate professorship in African-American history to begin in August 2025. We seek a scholar who specializes in the political and/or intellectual history of the long Civil Rights movement. The department is particularly interested in a candidate with expertise in Black women’s history. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in African American and U. S. History and participate in the History Department’s General Education curriculum. Given Georgetown’s own history and its location in Washington, D.C., a city with a large African American population, we are also looking for a historian who is interested in developing relationships with social and cultural institutions in the Washington, DC area.

A Ph.D. in History is required prior to appointment start date. Candidates must show strong promise of excellence in teaching as well as research.
