The Department of History at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a full-time instructor position, with an expected start date of August 18, 2025. We are seeking a candidate who specializes in United States History before 1877. Thematic focus is open. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the first half of the U.S. history survey, historical methodology, and upper-level courses in their area of specialization. The UNO history department awards undergraduate degrees (BA and BS) and supports graduate programming in History (MA and Certificate) and History & Government (MA). Instruction is both in-person and online.
The successful candidate will teach a 4/4 load and is invited to participate in department programming. Instructors are eligible for promotion to lecturer after five years of continuous service. Promotion applications are primarily evaluated on the basis of teaching effectiveness; with research and service contributions enhancing the candidate’s portfolio. While there is no expectation of research productivity, there are resources at both the university and department level available to support a candidate’s research agenda.
Applicants must have their dissertation and all other work for a Ph.D. in history or a closely related field completed and approved by July 18, 2025. Review of applications will commence on 10/31/2024. The position will remain open until filled.
