Summary
The History Department at Washington & Jefferson College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of South Asian History position to begin in the Fall of 2025. While the field of specialization is open, the department is particularly interested in applications from candidates whose expertise is in the history of gender and sexuality and/or environmental history before 1900.
Teaching Responsibilities
The current teaching load is three courses per semester. Teaching responsibilities would include introductory and comparative courses on the history of Asia more broadly, as well as upper-level courses in the candidate’s fields of specialization. Members of the department are also expected to contribute courses to the First Year Seminar Program and to a range of interdisciplinary programs including Asian Studies, Environmental Studies, Gender & Women's Studies, and International Studies.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a committed teacher/scholar deeply engaged in their field and committed to innovative, student-centered teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts setting. A Ph.D. in History or a closely related field is required prior to beginning employment.
