New College of Florida invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track position in American history beginning in August 2025. Specialization is open, but the committee is particularly interested in candidates with broad thematic expertise, such as in public history, economic history, war and society, and/or the history of science/technology. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in History, teaching experience, a commitment to liberal arts education, and a robust research agenda. In addition to contributing to the two-term sequence in the history of the United States, the candidate will offer courses in his or her area and period of interest. The teaching load is 2/2, plus sponsoring tutorials and senior theses and serving on baccalaureate committees. The candidate must have completed the Ph.D. by the start of employment.

Students, with the help of faculty sponsors, plan their own academic programs through a series of semester contracts, and receive narrative evaluations in lieu of grades.
