The Assistant Professor of History in the Department of History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Religious Studies at Indiana University Northwest is a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month position with summer assignments and associated stipend in accordance with programmatic need. The Assistant Professor of History will be an experienced scholar/teacher of Modern American History with an area of disciplinary research in political or social history, who is committed to the success of a diverse body of students and will have an active record of scholarship.
Core responsibilities include teaching undergraduate students in face-to-face and asynchronous online modalities, teaching graduate students in the collaborative online M.A. in History program, conducting disciplinary research, and participating in service activities. A subfield in African American history or the history of the Atlantic World is a plus.
The Assistant Professor of History position is responsible for a 12-hour per semester teaching load with an expected productive program of research and scholarly publication supported by a reduction in teaching load. Active involvement in service to the department, campus, discipline, and the community is also expected.
Required Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. in History by August 1, 2025.
Demonstrated experience teaching history courses at the university level with Modern America as the area of focus.
Experience with online college-level teaching.
Demonstrated ability to conduct research in Modern U.S. History.
Preferred Qualifications:
Area of disciplinary research in political or social history.
Experience teaching a diverse student body.
Experience teaching first-generation college students.
A subfield in African American history or the history of the Atlantic World.
Membership and engagement in academic and professional associations related to the discipline.
