The Ohio University Department of History is hiring a visiting professor in US History with a commitment to student success. The era of specialization is open, but the person hired will be expected to teach upper-division courses in US Women’s History and US social and cultural history, as well as lower division survey courses in US history. The courses will be delivered mostly in-person at the Athens Campus, but there may be the opportunity to teach an online course in our Master of Social Sciences program. The teaching load is typically eight in-person courses per academic year on a semester schedule.
This Visiting Professor position is a full-time, nine-month position for the academic year 2025-2026 (from August 16, 2025, to May 15, 2026).

Responsibilities
The regular teaching load is four courses per semester and will be offered in person and possibly online modalities. The candidate will teach upper-division courses in United States Women’s History and US social, cultural history. Scholars of any period will be considered, but the instructor will be expected to teach lower-division surveys in US History.
The department prefers a PhD in history, although ABD candidates who can demonstrate they will have the PhD in hand prior to August 2025 will be considered.
Prior teaching experience is required.
