Opportunity for a Senior Fellow in American History
The Hoover Institution, based at Stanford University, is seeking seeks an exceptional scholar of American history at the Senior Fellow level (equivalent to full professor). This would be a continuing-term appointment. The committee especially welcomes applications from historians of the founding of the 18th century republic and its aftermath and/or the role of the United States in the world up to the present day. Outstanding associate professors on the cusp of promotion to full professor are eligible. The successful candidate is expected to have published multiple high impact books and other works of scholarship, and to have a robust research agenda, with policy implications. Teaching is not required but there would be opportunities to do so.
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in History or a related field for American history.
The successful candidate could be appointed effective September 1, 2026 (or at a start date mutually agreed).
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis from August 1, 2025.

Requirements:
A Ph.D. or equivalent in History or a related field for American history
Post-doctoral research experience preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to publish research in academic journals and to present research findings to a variety of audiences.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and organizational skills and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.
