The Department of History in the College of Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Midwestern State University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2026.
As a faculty member in the Department of History, you will be expected to:
Teach 12 credit hours (4 courses) a semester. This includes core courses in U.S. history as well as upper-level courses in public history and/or digital history approaches. Face-to-face and online teaching are both expected.
Maintain an active research agenda within one’s field of expertise. This may include public and/or digital history projects.
Provide service to the department, college, and university, including participation in recruitment and retention activities.
Required Qualifications
PhD in History (ABD considered with expected completion by August 17, 2026)
Expertise in Public and/or Digital History. The department is particularly interested in faculty who can teach courses that introduce students to digital tools/techniques and/or the practice of public history.
Evidence of scholarship research.
Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

Commitment to undergraduate education
Ability to teach courses that would add to the department’s offerings
Interest in facilitating internships and/or projects with local and regional organizations
